You obviously listened to Devito’s speech, but you didn’t HEAR a word he said. I’m a business man and he is 100% right. These greedy companies screwed over their investors for years and bled the shareholders dry (see Gordon Gekkos speech in “Wallstreet”). Then, when new technology or a better way comes along, they don’t have the brains or the guts to change with the times. Wait a few more years until all newspaper companies are gone then you’ll see what I mean. It’s a digital world.

WTF are you talking about? You might well be right with your opinion, but it has nothing to do with this video. Peck’s attempt to sell cable is equivalant to selling videotapes instead of dvd’s. No-one will buy his product, because no-one wants or needs it.

Garfield IS looking at the long-term, or at least the realistic long-term. More money for the shareholders, the workers can get better jobs with functioning company’s and the factory can be used productively by other businesses.

The thing is, we really needed this guy during the financial meltdown. He would’ve had the guts and the wisdom to let poorly run firms go out of business, instead of wasting taxpayer money to let the government take over the worthless companies and give them to the unions.

Government regulation of the housing market is what got us into this mess. Taking more of the poision will not help. It is the American people that make this economy great, not the “Big government Prayer of the Dead.”

  7. gregvs3 says:

Very astute. When someone is no longer useful, and unlikely to become more useful in the future, the most compassionate thing to do is FIRE them. That way you aren’t stringing them along, and they have the opportunity to go out and find something where they ARE useful. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness, and if you keep them when you really don’t need them… you’re just stringing them along and denying them that right.

  8. chad3232132 says:

Garfield is a big part of what’s wrong with America today. As Gregory Peck mentioned in his speech, people like Mr. Garfield provide nothing of value to society. People like the man Peck protrays in this film are the people who built America into a superpower and NOT Garfield. Long-term vision (Peck) trumps short-term satisfaction/quick bucks (Garfield) anyway. The more Mr. Garfield’s slither their way into our economy the faster America will continue down the toilet.

  9. hardcider09 says:

You’re right…and what’s more…what he did IS the most compassionate thing. Those workers needed to get out of that dead-end industry and learn new skills…plus the assets of that company will be used to produce more things.

No, I just like it when Hollywood gives a bit of cold, hard reality in their fantasy based premise. At the end of the day; its all about the MONEY. Regradless of what parents out there try to spoon-feed their regarding the fallacy that if they are “good” little boys and girls, then everything will work out. Guys like GG and LL simply are trying to make a profit after the piss poor company management bled the money dry. Now LL is the “bad guy”? Give me a break. Its good to be back

its good for you that reality comes from hollywood movies.

  19. mindphreak4money says:

I agree with EVERY nuance of “Larry the Liquidator” speech. Because, at the end of the day; it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Forget the bleeding heart hysteria. “Won’t someone please think about the children” melodrama. Bleeding hearts DON’T pay the bills. MONEY DOES. He confronted them with their own desire for profits, and you saw how quickly every one of the stock holders did an about face. All of a sudden; REALITY hit them straight in the profit-margin. Thats why I have this DVD in my collection

Gas can only go as high as people would be able (or willing) to pay for it. Take an economics class before commenting on things you aren’t informed about thoroughly!!!

  22. TLAGT says:

You continue with your hysterics. No wonder you fear the marketplace. You’re too paranoid to be competitive.

  23. Renegen1 says:

Like I said, you’re a dime a dozen monday-morning quarterback. Of course you have all the answers, you have none of the experience. It’s completely pointless to reason with people like you. Believe what makes you warm in your blanket.

  24. TLAGT says:

You can use as many syllables as you want, syllables do not add credibility to your paranoid jumps to conclusions.

  25. Renegen1 says:

Anything but paranoid jumps to conclusins, but rather well researched and in-depth experience. Capitalism without barriers is self-imploding.

But hey, everyone has an opinion, even if their universe is tiny and all their opinions come from mainstream media!
